Minimum Wage Increase?

In an article posted by Fox News, it is said that President Obama is raising the minimum wage for government workers to $10.10 per hour. He hopes that this will lead to a raising of the minimum wage for all americans, even those that are not government workers. Obama's main goal is to make the minimum wage $9.00 per hour. He says that that would make it so that anyone working full time would not have to live in poverty. In a poll recently taken by Quinnipiac University, 71% of Americans are in favor of raising the minimum wage, including over half of the Republicans that were polled.
I understand the argument of why the minimum wage should be raised. It makes sense that if you raise the minimum wage, people would get paid more, and those people would be farther away from poverty. With that said, I stand firmly against raising the minimum wage. Raising the minimum wage would do the exact opposite of what it is supposed to do. More people would be in poverty if it were raised. The unemployment rate would also skyrocket. If the minimum pay were raised, then small businesses would be forced to fire people. Then those people would be out of a job and not earning enough money to live.

Also, prices of products would go up. If stores had to pay their workers more, then they need to gain that extra money from somewhere. That extra money would come from the store’s goods being raised. That would make life even worse for those still not able to find jobs.
There are already not enough jobs out there for people, and this government has opposed things that will create more jobs (I would elaborate, but that is a completely different topic). If the minimum wage is increased, then there would be even less jobs open for people. Which leads to a higher unemployment rate, as stated earlier. Which leads to more people on welfare, which is also a topic for later. Though I will say one thing about that topic: An administration’s success shouldn’t be based on how many people are added onto welfare, but how many people are taken off of welfare.

Alright I kind of went off on a little political rant… Sorry about that… Oh well. What do you guys think about this topic? I would be interested to hear different opinions.

Over-Ambitious Football

The New Orleans Saints coaches would do anything to win. Including giving their defensive players extra money for hurting the opposing team's players. The story came out in 2012 after an unknown source in the Saints organization came out and told someone about the 'bounty program.' The players would get certain amounts of money for each type of injury that they inflicted on another teams players. They would offer extra money if someone knocked out the opposing team's star player for the game. During playoff time, the amount of money would be raised by two or three times the original amount. Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams started the program in 2009 and ran it until 2011. Four of the coaches have been suspended, and shortly afterwards there were some players that were suspended.

This is a great example of people being over-ambitious. The coaches wanted to do anything to win. They took the will to win way too far. Being ambitious can be a good thing, if you realize your limits. If you work hard and play fairly, then you are using ambition as it should be used. When people end up cheating to get what they want, whether it is in sports, work, or school, then they are being over ambitious and bad things can come from it.

My name is Mike Flinn and I am 16 years old. I am a sophomore at Creighton Preparatory School in Omaha, Nebraska. I have one sister who is currently a senior at Duchesne.  She is planning on going to Creighton University for nursing school next year.

I am pretty much anti-social media. Not because I think they are bad things, it is just that I don’t have any devices to use social media on. I have no Facebook, I have no twitter, I have no Instagram, all because I do not have any tablets or smartphones or anything like that.

I am a big sports fan. I mostly like to watch college sports.  Professional sports are boring, unless it is baseball. I am a Husker fan. I watch all of their football games and I cheer for them in basketball, unless they are playing Creighton. Creighton all the way in College Basketball.  I love the Saint Louis Cardinals for major league baseball. I even went to the greatest baseball game of all time, the 2011 Game 6 of the World Series. I also went to game 3 of the 2013 World Series. I am a fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers in NBA basketball. They have had very disappointing seasons these last few years, but there is still hope for the year 2024.

I can bust a few moves out on the dance floor. And by a few, I mean very few moves. At dances I pretty much stand there trying to dance. I am the Will Artino of the dance floor. I can only do a few moves , such as the worm and the amazing jumping around and doing nothing.

I play YMCA basketball. I am just two points per game away, around seven blocks per game, nearly six assists, about five rebounds, and exactly 7.3843 steals per game away from averaging a quintuplet double. You could pretty much call me a pro. I am pretty sure if Michael Jordan's daughter had a kid with LeBron’s son, I would be the result.
